Ballet by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, consistently appealing to audiences of all ages, is one of the best Christmas productions in the history of world theatre.
Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky received a Commission to write a fairytale ballet from Prince Vsevolozhsky, Director of Imperial theatres. The play was conceived as the main event of the season.
It is based on the tale by Ernst Theodor Amadeus Hoffmann, libretto has created himself a genius choreographer Marius Petipa.
Tchaikovsky's music was called too complex for the ballet, but the premiere in December 1892, it did explain everything.
On the stage will unfold bright Hoffmann's story: a Christmas tree in the house, the stahlbaums, happy Marie with a gift of magical Drosselmeyer — Nutcracker, the story of the night the toys come alive, the battle with the Mouse King and his army, the victory of the Nutcracker and his transformation into Prince charming, the journey of the Prince and Marie by fairyland...
Years pass, decades and centuries, and «the Nutcracker» always creates a Christmas mood, magical Christmas tale for children and adults.
