The Red Square is the main square not only in Moscow, but also in other cities of Russia. The architectural ensemble of the area was formed during five centuries. Each state that existed in the territory of Russia left its characters on the Red Square. The word «Red» stands for «beautiful». However in the very beginning the square was called not the «Fire» or the «Red» – its earliest name was Trinity. The name «Red» appeared in the sixteenth century.
